WELCOME TO OUR
AMERICAN LEGION ARCHIVES
'Unity is what the American Legion is all about'
March 4th 2006
What a Grand Day and wonderful experience Post 21 shared with 46
Veterans from the Martinsburg Veterans Hospital facility
all day
Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. The original intent  was a double header

at Shenandoah University, an event called  ARMED FORCES DAY
arranged through Mr. Simon Volinski, Assistant Coach of the
University's Baseball Team.  However as Mother Nature would have it,
the cold and wind made it not possible to attend.
  However, we were
prepared at our Post to fully accommodate all, and we did exactly that.
The Ladies Auxiliary served huge amounts of chicken and all the
fixing's and desserts.  We were proud to have Rolling Thunder there,
as they furnished the refreshments and also donated Canteen Books
for all.  Mrs. Jones of Rolling Thunder got a special treat when one of
the Vets had her sit in a chair up front and sang "Me and Mrs. Jones"
to her.
During the afternoon when the meal was finished,
Chance  our 1st Vice Commander Event Organizer, made an
Announcement and suggested that we cordially invite to take all the
Veterans to the  POW/MIA Memorial
that Rolling Thunder constructed
and donated to t
he City of Winchester.   So, in a bus and two maxi
vans, we went, and with a Rolling Thunder  Escort. Needless to say,
the emotions were high and this picture
 Says it ALL !!
We had a surprise new group called the Legionettes,
6 Vets came up and did "My Girl",
that was so great and it just brought
the house down. Then another Veteran asked for the song "TRASHY
WOMEN"
and after some coaxing we got him to come up to sing it, and
that's when our
Ladies Auxiliary came up on the floor and surrounded
him, talk about Trashy women :>} they had the poor guy in stitches,
but he hung in there and got through it.
  Our Trashy Women Troop
consisted of Stella, Ruby, Lisa, Linda
and the whole place roared,,,
Way to go Girls.
S.A.L. President Marvin Rogers, commented later, after all was done
that there was not a scrap of food left, "Just Amazing", as he smiled !!!
And you thought two hundred pieces of chicken  and all the fixins was
a lot ??

We will be Hosting several American Legion Baseball Games again this
year for hospitalized Veterans to go to. Also Simon Volinski donated
Season Tickets for S.U Games.
Thanks Simon .

We all at Post 21 are there for our Veterans, and even more
importantly,  they got a break from their difficult times
and routines and had a great time as well.
Rolling Thunder, Chapter One. of Va.,  escorted our Vets to their
POW/MIA Memorial at Jim Barnett Park,
in the City of
Winchester, Va.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL 2006
We are about to start this years Season and we hope for a solid member
attendance to support our Team. We had a successful year last year having
the VAMC send Veterans to these Games.
  The Ladies Auxiliary  hosted,
the Legion, the S.A.L.
, and Rolling Thunder Chapter One of Winchester
hosted as well.
At one Game the team gave their Team Shirts to each of
the Veterans, the first pitch ball and the
also the game ball. Today I still see
those shirts being worn at the VAMC.
That tells us just how important
these Games are to our hospitalized Veterans.
Let's keep up the momentum.
